How to check AI legal citations
Treat an AI answer as a starting point for research. Open each cited source, compare the actual passage with the claim, and record what you could not verify before using the answer for a decision.

1. Identify the source, not just the link
A working link does not establish that a source is the right authority. Read the document title, issuing body and cited article or page. Distinguish the primary legal text from commentary and from documents you uploaded yourself.
- Record the source title and the exact article or page beside each claim.
- If a link is unavailable or leads to commentary, mark the claim unverified rather than filling the gap from memory.
2. Check time and jurisdiction
Write down when the events occurred and which place or legal system the question concerns. Compare that context with the source scope, version and any stated effective dates. A publication date alone does not establish which version applies to your facts.
- Look for amendments, replacement text and the dates shown by the official source.
- Keep an unresolved jurisdiction or version question in the missing-information list; do not assume an answer applies throughout the UAE.
3. Compare the passage with the conclusion
Read the surrounding provisions as well as the quoted sentence. Ask whether the source supports the precise statement or only part of it. For example, a citation about a procedure does not by itself verify an answer about the likely outcome of your dispute.
- Separate source wording, your facts and the AI interpretation in your notes.
- Ask a qualified UAE lawyer to review material uncertainty before you act; a citation or verification label is not legal advice.
Checklist before proceeding
- I can locate each cited passage in its source.
- I have checked jurisdiction, relevant dates and source version, or recorded the uncertainty.
- I have listed unsupported claims, assumptions and missing facts for human review.
